Beleaguered builder St Hilliers to reopen four more sites

21/05/2012 - Embattled builder St Hilliers Construction Pty will reopen four more work sites on Monday.

The company went into administration on May 16 after sister firm St Hilliers Ararat Pty Ltd ran out of cash.

The latter company went into liquidation after failing to secure $150 million to finish the $350 million public-private expansion of Victoria's Ararat Prison.

But in a sign that business was returning to normal for St Hilliers Construction, administrators announced that four of its Department of Defence projects in Victoria and Queensland would restart on Monday.

The sites are training facilities at Watsonia, north Melbourne, Bandiana, near Albury, Greenbank, south of Brisbane, and Tin Can Bay, about 200km north of Brisbane.

A statement issued by the St Hilliers Group on Saturday said chairman Tim Casey, son-in-law of racing identity Bart Cummings, was trying to get all of its other work sites open again.

St Hilliers said it was optimistic that 12 NSW public housing projects in Wollongong, Shoalhaven and Coffs Harbour would reopen in coming days.

Four other of its construction sites reopened on Thursday.
