Carbon tax not only factor in electricity price rises: oppn

21/08/2012 - Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says the carbon tax is not the only factor putting pressure on electricity prices.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has argued the states have "gold-plated" infrastructure in order to make more money from their electricity assets and this is the key factor in rising power prices.

She argues the carbon tax's contribution to the latest power bills is an average 10 per cent.

Abbott previously has said the carbon is the key driver behind the power price rises.

But he appeared to tone down his criticism in a speech to the Australian Industry Group in Canberra on Monday.

"Now it's true that the carbon tax is not the only factor in the dramatic rises in power prices, but the carbon tax is making a bad situation far, far, far worse and this is just the start," Abbott said.

"We are closer to FREE ENERGY than most people think" - Dr Michio Kaku (Theoretical Physicist). Is the Carbon Tax and Global Warming theory a last ditched effort for the power companies to grab the opportunity while they can or is there another agenda. There is obviously something happening on a larger scale, government would not in any fit of insanity impose this pain on their people unless there was a reason....or would they! Let's just see where the failed politicians of today are working after the next election. Then we see what the real agenda is......all will be revealed!
