Pro-Visual publishing has released the latest edition of the Western Australia Construction Industry Guide to site safety. Each year, the guide is distributed at no cost to construction companies throughout WA, with the aim to increase awareness of major health and safety issues within the Industry.

In a departure from previous practice this year’s guide focuses squarely on one topic only: Power Tool Safety. This is in response to the "dark" statistic that close to 30 per cent of tradesmen are injured each year by the power tools they use every day. These statistics remain an estimate, because incidents go largely unreported, but they still remain a great concern and are the cause of much lost productivity every year.

The top quality of the guide ensures that every section contains up-to-date and detailed information of the highest standard. Its high visibility serves to provide workers with a constant reminder of the importance of safe handing and usage of power tools. The information covers every area, from safety checks such as legal requirements, pre-use inspections, training and competency and safety data sheets, to guidelines for proper tool use such as work area preparations, ventilation and noise control, electrical safety and general maintenance.

To mark the release of this guide, Pro-Visual Publishing has also launched "Construction Safety News", an online resource dedicated to providing regularly updated safety information, geared to be a valuable tool for safety officers in the construction industry. There is also a public forum, a news and photo section, and regular competitions to win great prizes -- this month a Bosch cordless driver.
