Digital truck scales installed for water treatment plant

Supplied by Ultrahawke in Melbourne, the digital truck scales are used for weighing the volume of sludge produced during the water treatment process.

Fitted with the latest Flintec digital load cells, all four truck scales are pit mounted with the weighing decks at ground level to allow the trucks to be filled from an overhead auger system. Each truck scale measures eighteen metres long by three and a half metres wide and has a weighing capacity of sixty tonnes.

The supply of the four truck scales fitted with digital load cells was won by tender due to Ultrahawke’s ability to supply the exact product required by Melbourne Water at an affordable price. Ultrahawke’s offer of supplying digital load cell systems fitted to concrete deck truck scales was selected over cheaper imported steel deck truck scales which would have had potential corrosion issues in this environment.

Concrete deck truck scales are also much better suited for high traffic volumes of heavily laden vehicles due to the increased rigidity and strength offered by the reinforced concrete weighing deck. Concrete deck truck scales are also less likely to be affected by windy conditions due to the thirty tonnes plus of concrete in the weighing deck which helps stabilise the weight readings.
