The Safety Show & Materials Handling Show - Sydney
Sydney Showground, Homebush 28 - 30 Oct 2008 Visitors to become part of the show at The Safety Show Sydney For more information, phone Australian Exhibitions & Conferences Pty Ltd on 03 9654 7773, email safety@aec.net.au or visit www.thesafetyshow.com Fire-fighters will battle smoke and a wall of fire The Safety Show Sydney during each of its three days from October 28 to 30 at the Sydney Showground. The emergency rescue demonstration will feature real propane-fuelled flames to be extinguished by competing fire-fighters. Visitors to The Safety Show Sydney will also be able to test their skills quelling the fires, which respond to ultrasonic training extinguishers imported from the US by exhibitor, BullEx Australia. The dramatic fire training technology is just one of the new safety products and services to be highlighted at NSW's largest workplace safety event in 2008. In a first, Manufacturers Monthly will host daily tours guiding visitors to the newest factory and warehouse safety solutions. The Manufacturers Monthly tours will pinpoint new releases among the thousands of products more than 350 occupational health and safety specialists across three and a half acres at the Sydney Showground offering everything from asbestos removal to warehouse management systems. A host of fresh exhibitors spanning storage, matting, fencing and even hand surgery, will debut at The Safety Show in 2008. Held alongside The Safety Show is Sydney Materials Handling, a show dedicated to load, move and shift solutions that organisers say will be 25 per cent larger than last year's inaugural event. While Sydney Materials Handling features core logistics equipment like forklifts from big brand names like Clark Equipment, NTP and Toyota, the 2008 show will extend right through to keyless security technology and radio frequency identification (RFID). Organiser, Marie Kinsella of Australian Exhibitions & Conferences said the two shows would offer visitors an "up close and personal" opportunity to remain up to date with best practice OHS. "You can only be sure your workplace is safe if you know about all the latest OHS tools that are available." "Visitors tell us they come to The Safety Show and Sydney Materials Handling every year because the trade shows are so comprehensive, you can catch up on a year's developments in two or three hours. After all, how long would it take you to see solutions to safety and health challenges first-hand from hundreds of specialist suppliers any other way?" The hands-on emphasis of The Safety Show and Sydney Materials Handling carries through to full demonstration stage and safety theatre programs, which will let visitors see products from a diverse range of exhibitors in action. The Chiropractic Alliance, for example, will demonstrate a posture check on stage, while Ingal EPS will show how its Remote Lighting Lifter can shift otherwise inaccessible lighting using wireless remote control and the Australian Red Cross will invite volunteers to breathe life into a mannequin. The practical focus will particularly appeal to the pragmatic building and construction industry, which will enjoy a special feature area at The Safety Show this year. Regarded as one of Australia’s most dangerous industries, building and construction has a workplace death toll twice the Australian average. Among the safety products planned for the building and construction feature area are height safety equipment, scaffolding safety nets, ventilation, flooring, electronic data capture systems, appliance tagging and testing, safety and isolation switches, and power distribution boards. Visitors to The Safety Show from any industry, however, will benefit from a series of free workshops to be run by Principal Sponsor, WorkCover NSW, on a range of workplace safety and workers compensation issues. The workshops will help businesses improve workplace safety, meet their workers compensation obligations and manage a situation where a worker is injured. Those keen to enrich their professional OHS knowledge can register as delegates to The Safety Conference, which is held concurrently with the two trade shows. The conference program will explore the themes of Challenging Safety Energies; Training & Development: Ready, Willing and Able; Corporate Governance & Business Sustainability; Change Management; Critical Incident Management, Preparation, Recovery & Investigation; Practical Risk Management Solutions; and The Human Face of Safety. Among the other highlights of the Conference will be the WorkCover NSW Hypothetical, which engages unions, employer groups and WorkCover in dynamic debate as they confront hypothetical safety challenges. The Safety Show Sydney and Sydney Materials Handling will run in association with Safe Work Australia Week from October 28 to 30 at the Sydney Showground.
