25/07/2012 - Thermal imaging can be used in many industries where temperature variances can indicate a problem area.

A FLIR i7 infrared camera was purchased by Hinkler Podiatry in Bundaberg, Queensland to aid the early diagnosis and management of foot pathologies, which are characterised by temperature variances.

An ad in a QantasLink in-flight magazine prompted speculation that a thermal imaging camera would provide quantifiable temperature data for use in the medical area.

Paul Bramley, podiatrist at Hinkler Podiatry, states: "We feel that our FLIR i7 complements our other testing modalities, and provides our clients with the best possible foot care."

When asked about their choice of camera, Bramley states: "We chose the FLIR i7 for price, and the image quality was adequate for our purposes."

The image below shows a patient with Raynaud's Syndrome.

Raynaud's syndrome is characterised by a feeling of cold and pain in the extremities (toes, fingers, ears, nose) as a result of small vessel spasms.

Bramley states: "The FLIR i7 is a useful tool in identifying areas which may become inflamed or infected. It also provides excellent patient education."

A FLIR i7 infrared camera can be purchased through Pyrosales.
