Gear unit developer uses SolidWorks for product data management

The Challenge

The Kissling company was founded in 1925. Since its foundation, the company has been developing and constructing gear units which have always been characterised by quality, operating safety and an above average lifetime.

They are used in cable cars, roller coasters, cement and sugar mills, paper machines, extrusion systems, agitators, test benches and power plants. The development department relies on programs such as the 3D CAD solution SolidWorks Premium, as well as SolidWorks Enterprise PDM for its product data management.

The Solution

Developers were convinced by the user-friendliness of the SolidWorks Premium software, as well as the simple modeling with which changes can be implemented with speed and ease.

As Kissling opted for the premium package, employees are now able to use simulation and FEM functions, in addition to CAD.

In the CAD sector, SolidWorks Enterprise PDM is currently used to manage all project-related data such as designs, sketches or a customer’s Word documents.

The archiving function not only helps design employees to understand processes, but also to retrieve and use parts or units for current designs.

Using the workflow functions offered by SolidWorks Enterprise PDM, working steps were defined to make repairs and revisions easier to manage and monitor. This enabled a better adherence to deadlines and the avoidance of forwarding incorrect or unapproved data to the manufacturing department.
