Govt pours millions into Sydney climate change institute

05/04/2012 - The federal government is pouring millions of dollars into cutting-edge facilities it hopes will place Australia at the forefront of climate change research.

The $55 million institute at the University of Western Sydney will use world-class facilities to research the impacts of climate change on the nation.

Opening the centre on Wednesday, federal Science and Research Minister Chris Evans said the Hawkesbury Institute would transform climate change research in Australia.

"The data produced at the Hawkesbury Institute will help determine the impact of climate change on our land and water resources and in turn, help us shape our response to these challenges," he said in a statement.

"The facilities at the institute act as a climatic time machine that will give scientists unique access to study the effects of elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide, changed rainfall patterns and rising temperatures on the environment."

The government spent a total of $40 million on the new institute while the University of Western Sydney contributed $15 million.

What do we voters need to do to stop this absolute waste of our taxes? Labor knows that CO2 does not contribute to atmospheric temperature rise but it steadfastly refuses to acknowledge the truth. Meanwhile the coalition sits on its hands comfortable in the certain knowledge that the longer Labor keeps its head in the sand on this massive fraud, the harder us voters will kick Labor's tail at the next election.

This government talks about millions as if it were mere change in the pocket. How comforting is it to make wild predictions about what the weather will do 50-80 years in the future knowing full well you won't be around to answer any questions should it all not come to pass. Why do we need to a centre like this anyway as there has been a procession of doomsayers on the government payroll telling us for a few years now that we are all doomed unless we have a carbon tax. Nothing more than a con job that has reached religious proportions and we all know how things get distorted when that happens.
