Hyundai forklifts attract experienced service specialist
23/09/2009 - Flexilift Australia's appointment to exclusively distribute Hyundai forklifts throughout Australia has not gone unnoticed amongst the best industry professionals.
Predominantly due to Flexilift’s extensive focus on technical service and ongoing vehicle maintenance, long-standing Crown equipment employee Mr Les Green has joined the company as Operations/Service Manager after 33 years in important roles with one of its largest competitors.
“I spent 33 years at Crown Equipment in various positions and at this stage my career never really contemplated moving from the company,” said Mr Green.
“But seeing the foundation on which Flexilift is based - thorough service and maintenance - enticed me to move from a long-standing giant to this up-and-coming competitor which is so respected by Hyundai it signed an exclusive agreement.
“I am very impressed by the technical and quality aspects of the setup at Flexilift Australia, which is hardly surprising because the Managing Director, Stephen Ritchie, also has an extensive background in technical and field operations of forklifts.
"After 33 years, no one thought I would ever leave Crown - a company which was always good to me.
“But to step into a new environment where my extensive technical knowledge fits seamlessly into the requirements of an ambitious business undergoing national expansion presented itself as the ideal challenge to my capabilities."
Mr Green began at Crown Equipment in 1976 as a Road Serviceman, the 12th service van on the road. In 1980, he was promoted into the Road Service Office as a Service Supervisor, managing up to 40 staff and 35 service vans.
In 1986 he moved into the customer service are of the business looking after many of Crown’s major account customers including Coles Myer, K Mart, Franklins supermarket chain, IGA, Safeway, Bridgestone, Bonlac Foods, Kraft Foods, Ford and many more, dealing mainly with onsite Service Manager’s.
In 1992 Mr Green was promoted to Area Manager – Staff Resources: in this role he was responsible for employing all the road service and workshop personnel amounting to over 100 staff.
He also worked with Kangan Batman TAFE in Coburg and Apprenticeships Victoria during this time to develop the ‘Forklift Mechanic’ trade.
In 1998 he gained even greater experience when his role was changed to Road Service Area Manager but due to the increasing amount of service vans in the company fleet (in excess of 60) it was too much for one person to handle so another area manager was hired.
Among the many duties in this extensive role he:
* led and managed a team of 30 Service technicians with an aim to
continuously meet company budgets and objectives
* developed client relationships by maintaining high customer focus
* managed an expense control program
* developed and implemented new operational policies
* provided overall direction to service technicians
* managed vehicle fleet servicing and maintenance requirements
* visited debtors
* promoted occupational health and safety
“ Flexilift has told me where its business is heading, and that is into national expansion on the strength of the world renowned Hyundai brand as well as its Flexi articulated units and Sellick range for rough terrain," said Mr Green.
"The company has already begun appointing distributors across all parts of Australia so immediately I've been able to put my expertise into the system to ensure management of all technical issues can be maintained right across the country.
"I'm looking forward to using my long list of skills to help Flexilift Australia
become one of the major players in the Australian forklift market."
