Mackay increases export sales markets

Hardly a day goes by without news of a manufacturing company moving its production facilities off shore and moving to an importer status. So it makes for a refreshing change when a local manufacturing company can report on an expanding export market for locally made Australian goods.

A 100% Australian owned private company, Mackay Consolidated Industries is a major supplier of a diverse range of engineered rubber and bonded metal/rubber composite products for the automotive, defence, transport, construction and industrial markets.

Mackay exports these essential products worldwide, where it maintains a competitive advantage based on service and quality and not price alone.

The company is a first tier supplier to a number of Automotive OEM’s including General Motors, Ford and Toyota. They are also a second tier supplier to a number of other manufacturing companies which provide various products to the major automotive companies.

Mackay’s automotive aftermarket parts include a comprehensive range of common car components such as hoses, mountings and various elastomer based undercar componentry designed to suit Australian, European, Japanese, Korean and North American vehicles.

As a founding member of the Australian Automotive Industry, the company has been exporting these car components to the US for many years with steady sales increases achieved during this period. More recently, export success has also been found in sales to the European and Middle East markets.

To many the company is something of a quite achiever, but it is also Australia’s largest supplier of vibration isolators that are used across the automotive, industrial, marine and rail markets and as such an important contributor to modern transportation.

It regularly exports isolators to the US, Malaysia and China and following a recent Austrade mission to Hong Kong, has appointed a distributor for the entire vibration isolator range.

Mackay’s extensive experience with rail products including chassis and engine mounts and suspension systems has also been recognised by companies in Hong Kong. The company is optimistic of obtaining orders for custom engineered products for passenger rolling stock, going forward.

Mackay is also a long term supplier to the Australian Defence Industry, providing products such as submarine components (internal & external), signature reduction materials for surface warships, tank tracks, road wheels and pads, ballistic shields and launch silo covers for ESSM missiles for use on NATO warships.

The company’s extensive experience with defence products has enabled it to secure export contracts with a number of Singapore based companies including the Singapore Defence Force.
