26/08/2008 - Comtest invests in new test equipment to perform testing of telephony handsets with Type 3.2 construction.

As technology has changed the shape and size of telephone handset has changed.

To be able to ensure these latest handsets can be tested to the appropriate regulatory standards Comtest has invested in a new test head and a Type 3.2 artificial ear, this new test head and ear provides accurate and repeatable positioning of telephone handsets for electroacoustic measurements and testing of almost all telephone handset designs, including handsets with antennas and handsets with asymmetrically positioned transducers.

For type approval and conformance testing Brüel & Kjær’s new Telephone Test Head Type 4602B is a test jig which allows accurate positioning of telephone handsets, mobile telephones and cordless telephones relative to the Mouth Simulator and the Artificial Ear, enabling standardized measurements to be performed.

The Wideband Ear Simulator for Telephonometry, Type 4195, is used for testing both high and low impedance telephone handsets. It provides a very realistic acoustic load to the telephone under test and therefore exposes the acoustical differences between telephone handsets as they appear in real use. This is accomplished by a built-in leakage which can be selected as high or low grade.

The Wideband Ear Simulator conforms to ITU-T Rec. P.57, Type 3.2 and it can be used in the wide frequency range from 100 Hz to 8 kHz.
