A drop centre platform scale uses a pair of beams with the load cells mounted inline and connected to each other by heavy gauge checker plate connected towards the bottom of the load cell framework to lower the weighing plate to around 25mm above ground. Shallow metal ramps are then fitted to allow much easier manageability of the trolleys on and off the platform scales.
A platform scale mounted in a shallow pit with the weighing surface at floor level would be the best solution for weighing mobile trolleys or vats, but this is very expensive once costs for the pit foundations and a drain are added.
For Continental Biscuits, the entire platform scale and ramp are fabricated in stainless steel to suit food industry requirements as is the supplied Rinstrum R320 digital weight indicator that is to be wall mounted behind the platform scale. A stop plate was fitted across the back of the platform scale as part of the weighing surface to assist staff with correct location of the dough trolleys.
