The study also revealed a significant reduction in the severity of the collisions that did occur. Toll has committed to a 12-month trial and the rollout will include all new vehicles at its Minchinberry centre.

Instead of concentrating on the truck or the road, DriveCam concentrates on the driver and incorporates a corrective and preventive approach. The technology consists of a palm-sized event recorder mounted behind the rear-view mirror. It records the critical moments of hard braking or swerving before and after an incident.

DriveCam behaviour analysts use the footage to make recommendations on specific driver coaching. DriveCam claims to have reduced vehicle damage, workers compensation and personal injury costs 30 to 90 per cent in more than 60,000 commercial and government vehicles worldwide.
