Marketing your GrainProvided by Graintec Pty Ltd 20/10/2008 - We (Graintec) recently participated in a grain marketing workshop across central and northern NSW. The workshop was organised by “Partners in Grain” (www.partnersingrain.org.au) and was presented by Malcolm Bartholomaeus of Tricom Future Services. The workshops were attended by grain growers, grain marketers, grain storage operators and equipment suppliers. Malcolm presented at each workshop the different ways farmers can market their grain. The Grain marketers spoke to the audience about what each had to offer growers in terms of contracts, pools, grain quality and many more topics of interest. Interestingly, each grain marketer including ABB, AWB, AGA, AgFarm and Hunter Grain to name a few, all have discernable differences in what they offer to growers. Together with a deregulatred market, growers now have many more avenues to explore in determining the right storage, distribution, marketing and quality testing of their grain. This season is the first true test to see how the new system will work, the industry as a whole is watching with a close eye. Whilst many aspects of the new system are uncertain, what is for sure is that testing the quality of your grain has become extremely vital to knowing which marketing avenue will bring you the greatest return. For growers who store their grain on farm, well managed on-farm storage is vital to achieving a good sale price. The grower will need to know the protein quality of their grain which helps to answer the following questions; The grain marketers are presenting different opportunities in terms of paying for protein increments. ABB for example are paying on “stack average”. Agfarm are asking their growers to test the protein of their grain prior to sending for storage so that growers can support their claims. AWB are paying protein increments. As of late September, AGA said Graincorp were to release their protein increment details during October. As a grower, you need to sieze your marketing opportunities and to equip yourself with the correct grain testing equipment to reach your goals. Graintec supply trade certified NIR (protein testing) instruments, high quality moisture meters, certified and non-certified sieves, an industry standard Agtator, durable grain sampling spears, hectolitre measuring equipment and scales and so much more. We have supplied grain testing equipment, and provided technical services and advice to the grains and food industry for over 21 years.
