13/02/2008 - 35 South Australian Transport Safety Compliance Officers (TSCO) have become the first in Australia to complete a rigorous new training program. Director Transport Safety and Regulation, Brian Hemming said, “South Australia is the first and only transport jurisdiction in Australia to have completed these national qualifications and now has Australia’s most highly qualified transport inspectors. This also puts South Australia at least two years ahead of other states in terms of training delivery.”

TSCO’s provide safety education and enforcement for heavy vehicles, recreational marine vessels and passenger transport vehicles (buses and taxis). South Australian officers now possess Certificate IVs in Statutory Compliance and Road Transport Compliance. Representatives from Safe Work SA and SA Police directly involved with the heavy vehicle industry also participated in parts of the training to ensure a consistent approach.

“This is about ensuring our multi million dollar transport industry operates as safely and efficiently as possible. Despite being one of the smaller transport jurisdictions in Australia, DTEI has now become the benchmark for other states,” Mr Hemming said
