Queensland councils have been quick to take advantage of government flood relief packages to upgrade their flood prone areas. The addition of PolyCom Stabilising Aid to replacement material ensures that flood prone areas are much less affected by future flooding events.
Seals Group of Queensland, an affiliate of Earthco Projects of Victoria and NSW, has been distributing PolyCom to Queensland councils and they are enthusiastic about the results on their unsealed roads. Seals Group and Earthco Projects have extensively compared the effect of PolyCom Stabilising Aid on flood affected roads in their respective states and found that PolyCom performs extremely well regardless of material variations.
Using PolyCom to stabilise roads and road shoulders lessens the effects of excess water and many Queensland councils have noted that areas treated with PolyCom in the past maintain their integrity in extreme water events.
PolyCom Stabilising Aid strengthens the ground but maintains flexibility, and delivers a high degree of water resistance. Washed out road shoulders are particularly dangerous obstacles for road users but, by adding PolyCom to the replacement material, this problem can almost be eliminated. Stabilising road shoulders also reduces damage to road structures by enabling excess water to shed further from the road edge, providing a larger margin to help prevent seepage and softening.
The softening of unsealed road material, shoulder damage, and traffic damage is a significant contributor to flood repair bills and amounts to a huge percentage of the overall repair cost.
Innovative Queensland councils working with Seals Group are adding PolyCom Stabilising Aid to their re-sheeting material either at the pug mill or during road repair works. They have found that road maintenance program costs are reducing because their roads remain stable for longer.
