13/02/2008 - More than 260 truck drivers were intercepted at Goondiwindi, Queensland recently as part of an ongoing crackdown on drug use in the heavy vehicle industry. One driver tested positive for drug use and four others were found in possession of illicit drugs.

The operation was a joint initiative involving local traffic officers, detectives from State Crime Operations Command, officers from State Traffic Task Force and the Roadside Drug Testing Unit. Detective Superintendent Gayle Hogan of State Crime Operations Command said, "We are not only cracking down on heavy vehicle drivers, we are also focusing on employers who are not working within the law, such as making cash payments to drivers.

Anyone with information regarding offences by individuals or organisations in the heavy vehicle industry should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
