Sullair Tailors Hands-On Portable Diesel Compressor Training
Provided by Champion Compressors 7/10/2008 - Hands-on air compressor training courses, now offered by leading compressor technology group, Sullair Australia, are providing Australian industry with vital practical experience in compressor maintenance and operation. Based on the same in-depth technical training used to educate Sullair’s own engineers, the training courses are tailored to suit the requirements of individual workplaces. Each course includes a theory session followed by practical training using the client’s own Sullair compressors. The new Sullair training courses cover an array of topics, from working safely with compressed air, air compressor operating principles, through to technical maintenance procedures, making them ideal for operations, service, and maintenance specialists. Single- or multi-day programs are offered--organisations with a large range of Sullair compressors often extend the duration of the course to receive tuition on each of their compressor models. According to Sullair field technical training engineer, Wayne Liddell, the new training courses have been designed to provide attendees with a thorough understanding of the generic principles of air compressor design and operation. “The Sullair training sessions, both the theory and practical segments, are comprehensive,” he said. “Each course is customised for individual workplaces according to previously supplied survey results. In this way, we ensure that the training is matched to the needs of each participant.
The training courses are highly interactive--both in the theory and practical sessions. “We encourage discussion and give participants the opportunity to share their field experiences,” said Liddell. “This allows us to address topics of interest while they are fresh in the minds of the participants.” The course outcomes and accreditation are equally well defined. Each person receives a detailed technical manual featuring material exclusive to course participants. Depending on the level of certification specified by the client, the manual can be used as a reference for an ‘open-book’ test, which is given in the final session. Alternatively, organisations may opt for a short multiple-choice test, based on the day’s activities. In Liddell’s experience, the benefits of attending a Sullair training course are long-lasting. “Clients who have attended earlier versions of the courses show a high degree of technical knowledge,” he said. “If we are discussing an issue with our customers’ field-maintenance teams months or even years after a course, we can immediately discuss the finer details of their air compressor--we speak a common language. Such a level of knowledge is rarely displayed by untutored personnel, even if they have extensive air-compressor experience.” Liddell finds added benefit in the knowledge exchanged with Sullair operators from a variety of working environments. “Whether the training takes place at an industrial complex in a capital city, a mine in the north-west of Australia, or a site overseas, sharing ideas and discussion raises the level of expertise among compressed-air users,” he said. “Even the most experienced participants learn a lot from the expert Sullair facilitators--and each other.” Sullair’s training courses are available throughout Australia, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand.
