The two versions retain identical insulation properties however they are marked differently for reasons outlined below:
Both colours of pipe will now have their ratings stamped into the pipe for permanent identification.
The stamping information will include the supplier, date of manufacture, batch number, AS-4202 rating and ASTM F712 rating. The ASTM F712 rating is a new addition and rates the pipe for up to 14.6KV guarded phase to phase use.
While both colour versions of pipe will have this information stamped onto them, the yellow and black pipe will also include a sticker stating that the pipe is tested to AS-4202 and suitable for low voltage use.
The red and black pipe will not include this low voltage sticker.
Tiger Tails are used throughout Australiasia by Energy Authorities who utilise them with subtle differences.
Some Energy Authorities are now treating the pipe differently using the colour to separate the pipe into different categories for different uses:
The Yellow and black pipe is used by some primarily as a visual warning on low voltage conductors.
The red and black pipe is used by some, primarily as both PPE and visual warning on voltages up to 14.6KV phase to phase. In this instance, it should be kept separate and treated differently from the yellow and black pipe.
