9/10/2008 - Australia's third largest nickel producer Mincor Resources NL has discovered an extension to its Miitel mine, which was its first in Western Australia's mineral-rich Kambalda region.

The Perth-headquartered company said a step-out hole nearly 600 metres beyond previous drilling had intersected strong, wide nickel mineralisation that it interprets as a continuation of the Burnett Shoot at North Miitel.

Grades encountered in one intersection included 2.74 per cent and 3.42 per cent nickel.

Significantly, the intersection contained a narrow zone of high tenor massive sulphides grading 13.15 per cent nickel, the company said.

"The presence of massive sulphides ... is an important indicator of the strength of the ore system," it said.

Managing director David Moore said the area was favourable for high-production, low-cost mining.

Mincor owns 12 ore systems in the Kambalda nickel district and operates eight mines.

Last month, it reported record annual production of 19,000 tonnes and is targeting a long term production rate of 20,000 tonnes per year.
