WA: Tap finds oil, production waits for Varanus repairs

25/07/2008 - Junior oil and gas producer Tap Oil Ltd has made an oil discovery near Varanus Island in Western Australia, which will not commence production until the gas processing facilities on the island are repaired.

Tap is a 12.22 per cent participant in the Apache Energy Ltd-operated Harriet joint venture, which ceased production on June 3 when the facility was shut down temporarily after a pipeline explosion.

The discovery, called Simpson-9, was announced after market close.
