Rio downsizes: jobs to be axed at central Qld coal mine
20/07/2012 - Rio Tinto says jobs will go at a central Queensland mine as the company battles falling coal prices.

The mining giant says it is looking at ways to reduce its costs at its Clermont Coal Mine, west of Mackay, to improve competitiveness as the price of thermal coal drops.
"A review is underway and although the details are to be worked out, it will unfortunately mean redundancies will be required," a spokesman said in a statement to reporters on Thursday.
"We do not take this decision lightly and are committed to keeping our employees informed and providing support to those affected."
The spokesman said it was too early to say how many workers would be affected.
The mine, opened in 2010, has a workforce of 770 which is shared with the neighbouring Blair Athol mine.
