Santos monitoring centre to minimise CSG impact in Qld

20/07/2012 - Oil and gas producer Santos has opened a 24/7 monitoring centre to minimise impacts its coal seam gas activities may have in Queensland.

The centre, based at Santos's Brisbane headquarters, will monitor in real time its CSG operations in the Roma and Injune region, west of Brisbane.

Santos general manager of operations Rob Simpson says it will improve safety and minimise impacts on local communities.

"It gives us a full view of every well we have in the gas field and it gives us all the data we need," Simpson told reporters on Thursday.

"So we have the right people monitoring, who can make the right decisions."

Simpson said video imaging and data from the wells and treatment plants will be collected and analysed.

The centre contains 90 large screens, one of the world's largest touch screens and six simultaneous video conference facilities.
