SmartMine: Devex closes first deal with EBX Group

Mining company MMX, propriety of the EBX Group, closed a commercial deal with Devex to implement Smartmine and its additional functionalities (BI Analyzer and Quality Control) at their unit in Serra Azul, in Minas Gerais. In total, 60 equipments will be installed to monitor all the mobile devices of the mine.

The Serra Azul Unit has two operating mines, with an installed capacity to produce 8.7 million tons of iron ore per year, and a forecast to reach 24 million tons until 2016.

With Smartmine, the mobile devices of the two mines will be monitored and controlled by on board computers, global positioning systems (GPS) and a modern network of digital communication.

The data analysis will be performed by advanced algorithms of optimisation and simulation, resulting in savings and an increase in the unit's productivity.

Partnership will open new doors

Guilherme Bastos, Devex CEO, considers Devex's entrance at the Serra Azul unit to be very important.

"The EBX Group, propriety of entrepreneur Eike Batista, is responsible for the management of many mine units and is very active in the oil, gas and port sectors as well," Bastos said.

"Our expectation is that the Serra Azul Project will open new doors for us to broaden our partnership."
