12/09/2008 - What normally happens when a high pressure gas hose bursts? To answer this question, think back to what occurs when you turn on the garden hose with a spray nozzle at the end and you’re not holding it. It behaves like a spitting cobra….and that’s at low water pressure. Now imagine what 200 bar would perform like.
Be unfortunate enough to get in the way of this pressure being released via the burst hose and you could lose a limb. It’s not just an Occupational Health & Safety issue either, if the hose bursts and no one is around to observe it, the entire cylinder contents could end up escaping to atmosphere – even worse if the escaping gas is dangerous or expensive. What is needed is a hose system that maintains its integrity and also shuts off the gas flow. Introducing Smart-Hose™.
Smart-Hose™ solves these safety problems in a unique way that is simple in design but incredibly effective. A cable is attached through the centre of the hose and secured at each end in an open position by plungers. If the hose ruptures or stretches, the plungers shut against each end’s housing effectively shutting off the gas supply from entering the hose. The cable keeps the hose secure at both ends, eliminating any “anti-whip” – even if the hose and cable are completely severed. Now that’s Smart ……That’s Smart-Hose.
