There are two main types of Industrial Thermometers that do not require power in order to operate. Such thermometers are referred to as Bi-Metallic and Gas Expansion Thermometers
The most popular is the Bi-Metallic type. Ross Brown Sales Pty Ltd stocks a comprehensive range of these thermometers, which are used as a direct reading instrument.
The Bi-metallic sensor is made of two different metallic coils twisted together and welded at their end, the two different thermal expansion coefficients will generate torque at their free end when subject to temperature change and cause the indicator on the thermometer dial to rotate.
Stock sizes are from 60mm diameter head to 125mm diameter head in CBM, lower mount and any angle and in a variety of stem lengths. About 20 temperature ranges are available with the maximum being 0 to 500C.
Gas actuated thermometers work on the expansion of a cylindrical bulb filled with high pressure nitrogen connected remotely to a pressure gauge type indicator.
Not only does it have the advantage of the gas filled type, as with the Bi-Metallic, that it requires no power, but it can also be remotely mounted. Capillary armouring is common practice in Industrial environments.
