"We're going to fight you": oppn ruffled on carbon repeal

21/09/2012 - Labor frontbencher Greg Combet says the federal government will fight the opposition all the way over the government's carbon pricing regime.

The climate change minister took the coalition to task on Thursday over its pledge to repeal the carbon tax on big polluters if its wins the next federal election due in late 2013.

"We're going to fight you, and we're going to win this issue ... because it's the right thing to do," Combet told parliament.

"It's the right thing for our country, it's right for our economic future."

Combet said the opposition's long-running fear campaign against carbon pricing would "come to nothing" and he argued the coalition wouldn't repeal it if elected.

Earlier, Opposition climate change spokesman Greg Hunt told parliament families and business would pay for the tax through job losses and hikes in electricity prices.

Combet on Wednesday introduced into parliament a suite of bills to establish a link between the Australian and European emissions trading schemes from July 2015, when Australia's fixed carbon price ends.

Last month, Labor scrapped its $15 floor price for its emissions trading scheme in a move dubbed by the opposition as a "cruel hoax" for consumers.

Greg, the right thing to do is not lie directly to the voters just before they go to vote, you rember "there will be no carbon dioxide tax in a government that I lead" you rember Greg because the voters will remember Labor very very soon.
