It is one of the great Australian dreams - to pack up the bare essentials, and leave the rat-race behind in a quest to commune with nature in the tranquil beauty for which Australia is renowned. Once a matter of simply packing a basic swag with a bedroll and billycan, camping has developed into a sophisticated multi-million dollar leisure industry. Here, recreation vehicle (RV) manufacturers have competed to provide hundreds of thousands of Australians with a 'home away from home' - one that travellers can set up quickly, and move from location to location as the itinerary or inclination takes them.
One such company is Jayco - an Australian company, legendary for its innovative camper trailers, motorhomes, and caravans. After the company developed its first camper trailer in 1975, Jayco quickly established a reputation for producing high-quality, competitively priced caravans and camping products. Within a few short years it had become - and still remains - a leading player in the Australian RV industry.
In order to meet rising market demands, Jayco decided to consolidate its operations from 13 factories - split across three locations - to a single purpose-built 40,000 square metre production facility in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong.
The company's aim was to expand manufacturing capacity, to build on its enviable reputation for quality, and to improve manufacturing efficiencies. In keeping with its aspirations to reduce its power consumption and environmental footprint, Jayco selected leading Australian air compressor specialist, Champion Compressors, to design, supply and install an energy-efficient compressed air solution to meet production needs.
