During the Christmas holiday, Anglican School Corporation was busy with some sizeable construction work which was done at two school projects.
Both projects had stair nosing requirements and one of them also had ramps.
ASC management has contacted Global Safe Technologies Australia, to provide surface safety solutions based on their previous experience with the organisation and its anti slip solution product range.
One of the schools required an elevated central seating area to have Disability Standards 2010 legislation compliant anti slip stair nosing and slip resistant edges installed. The Safe Grip Ultimate product was proposed due to its proven wearability and providing a sustainable highly resistive surface as well as its suitability to provide an anti slip surface for a large rounded shape.
After the initial discussions regarding to the legislation and relevant standards requirements, it was decided that a specific colours be installed both for anti slip stair nosing as well as for the edge of the circle.
To ensure there was a water run-down channel, a small gap was left around every 1500mm of the circle. Global Safe's unique protection line was installed over the anti slip stair nosing which ensured not only the exact match to the specified colour, but also will make it easier to get the surface clean without impacting its slip resistive quality.
The second school had similar requirements to a previously completed school, anti slip stair nosing onto wooden stairs and anti slip coating to ramps in a nominated colour. For the stair nosing the Safe Grip Ultimate product was proposed and for the ramp the Floor Tuff Ultimate environmentally friendly polyurethane anti-slip coating.
Both jobs were completed within the agreed time frame ensuring that the entire project could complete in a timely manner.
Independent NATA-accredited company Safe Environments have carried out the slip resistance testing and all surfaces have passed with a flying colours, providing a Pendulum Class V (highest slip resistance classification) result.
This high initial slip resistance, combined with the products accelerated wear test result, will ensure that the surface slip resistance will provide a sustainable, safe and slip resistance standard compliant surface, for many years.
