Carter Holt Harvey (CHH) Woodproducts in Gympie QLD were using metal halide floodlights to illuminate their woodchip yard. This section of their plant is a hive of activity-24/7, with the continual loading of wood chips onto a processing line by front end loaders.
The electrical supervisor of the plant has been constantly frustrated with the never ending task of replacing metal halide bulbs on the top of 17 meter light towers. This requires hiring crane/hoist equipment which is costly and the yard to be shut down so that the crane can access the towers.
CHH approached Redbank Instruments for a solution with LED lighting.
Existing lighting lux levels in the wood yard were taken along with distance measurements between lighting towers. Redbank, in conjunction with PurEco-Switzerland, offered CHH a proposal to use 9 x 260 watt LED floodlights. This proposal included a light simulation report showing increased lux levels with the LED lights.
CHH accepted the proposal, installed the LED floodlights and never looked back.
"I am very impressed with the lights you supplied for the chip yard. They have done exactly what you said they would, and has freed up a lot of power for me in that area "- C.M CHH Electrical Supervisor.
Previous floodlight power consumed: 6 x 2kw=12kw. New LED floodlight power: 9 x 260 watt= 2360 watts.
Energy savings alone are 80%, notwithstanding savings on repair and maintenance due to crane hire and plant downtime due to ongoing bulb changing with the existing metal halide lamps.
The PurEco LED floodlights have 50,000 hours operating life which is at least 10 years if used 12 hours per day. Redbank Instruments are offering LED floodlights for evaluation in your application.
