Conveyor belts used in lignite mine

Supplier: Hosch
14 June, 2011

The open Lignite mine of RWE in Hambach, Germany, has been a long standing customer of HOSCH.

They are now operating the fastest conveyor belt in the world at 15m/s. Due to the intense belt speed RWE required belt cleaners that would be able to withstand the conditions, thus two C4 secondary scrapers were installed.

Since the installation, there has been positive feedback about the C4 and its ability to withstand the conditions.

PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) is one of Indonesia’s world class producers of high coal thermal from one of the world’s largest open pit mining operations.

The increase in demand has resulted in KPC having some of the fastest belts in the world operating at 9.1m/s.

In 2010 KPC installed four HOSCH C4 scrapers after one whole year without a blade change we can estimate that KPC will not have to conduct a blade change until this time next year.

The ability to be able to withstand these high belt speeds whilst achieving efficient belt cleaning for such a long period of time, is something which no other scraper on the market can do. The C4 will ultimately reduce the number of shutdowns required, due to the reduced wear on conveyor components like return rollers.

HOSCH is now focusing on the future of the C4 Scraper and a revolution to belt cleaning technology is on the horizon.
