Troughers & Return Carriers

Ralphs-Pugh troughing units are available in two and three roll configurations. Return carriers are in a single roller configuration. Troughing units are designed for continuous bulk conveying of food products, feed, grain, meat, chemicals, waste and other materials.

Engineered frames and quality rollers provide excellent strength and durability resulting in lower operating and maintenance costs. Ralphs-Pugh troughers are rated for light to medium loads with speeds to 300 FPM.

They are ideal for replacing fluming, hinge wall belting conveyors with sideboards. All units are easy to install. Roller replacement kits are readily available.

Urethane Products

Urethane elastomers are unique because they combine many of the advantages of rigid plastics, metals, and ceramics with the elasticity of rubber.

Urethane resists abrasion and reduces the affects of shock and impact on load bearing capacity. Urethane covered rollers will not slip like PVC and will not mar conveyed materials which metal rollers are apt to do. Urethane provides the ultimate in wear resistance and noise dampening, making it the material of choice for our sleeved and tapered rollers.

In addition, our urethane shaft adapters, when placed over the roller shaft ends, eliminate frame wear caused by metal-to-metal contact and extend the life of your conveyor frame. The advantages of urethane versus metal, plastic, and rubber materials are summarized below.

Advantages vs Metal

  • Abrasion resistance
  • Noise Abatement
  • Corrosion resistance
  • Toughness upon impact

Advantages vs Plastic

  • Non-brittle upon impact
  • Elastomeric memory - when stretched will return to original dimensions
  • Abrasion resistance

Advantages vs Rubber

  • Abrasion resistance
  • Cut and tear resistance
  • Higher load bearing capacity
  • Ozone resistance
  • Colors available for color coding parts
  • Harder durometer range
  • Resistance to mold, fungi, etc
  • Non-marking

Limitations:

When evaluating an application, the following material limitations need to be considered:

  • Temperature: 200 ° F. max
  • Steam: Exposure to steam degrades material.
  • Chemicals: Certain acids and base chemicals will rapidly degrade material.

Bushings & Bearings

Ralphs-Pugh offers a wide selection of bearings to match the user’s conveyor roller requirements.

Our offering includes commercial grade and precision bearings in metal and plastic housings. Commercial grade bearings are recommended for lower speeds and lighter load applications.

Precision Bearings (ABEC-1) are the best choice for higher speeds. For corrosive and wash-down environments, stainless steel bearings are often specified. We design and build all our plastic housed bearings in our facility to ensure the highest quality available.

Bushings

These non-ball bearing units are designed for light to medium loads and slow speeds. Typical installations are push conveyors and gravity conveyors. These are ideal for sanitary, rust and corrosion resistant, maintenance free wet or dry applications. Bearing materials include Ultra (Acetal plastic with Teflon internal lubricants), CS2 (Acetal), UHMW and ABS plastic. Bushing adapters include nylon, stainless steel, carbon steel and Ultra.
