Cupped or Flat Fold?
The traditional cupped style and the newer flat fold designed respirators are widely used in Australia.The innovative three-panel design of the 3M 9300 Series is conveniently foldable and not prone to collapse.
P1 or P2?
“P1”is the rating given to a respirator which meets the Australian Standard AS/NZS1716 for filtering Mechanically generated particles e.g.particles formed by crushing, grinding, drilling, sanding, cutting etc including asbestos fibres and silica. “P2”is the rating given to a respirator which meets the Australian Standard AS/NZS1716 for filtering Mechanically and Thermally generated particles e.g.those from weldingfume. These are also the recommended type for use against biological particles e.g.SARS.
Valve or No Valve?
The 3M Cool Flow Valve is a patented one way valve designed to reduce heat and moisture buildup within the respirator to offer comfortable protection, particularly in hot and humid conditions. 3M Disposable Respirators are available in valved or unvalved versions.

The Australian Standard AS/NZS1715 provides guidance in the selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective devices.
