This type of PVC has longitudinal ribs that are raised out by approx 2mm that provide additional strength to the PVC, but also work to reduce the scratching of the PVC as heavy traffic passes through at the impact point.

As a forklift impacts through the strips, the main point of contact is on the rib rather than the plane surface of the strip, thus reducing the scratch effect.
