18/11/2010 - “It was one of the most professional, well managed projects I have been involved with” This was the view of Kevan Morgan, Carlton United Breweries (CUB) Manager Reliability Packaging – Electrical, who engaged insignia to upgrade the pallet labelling system at the brewery’s Yatala plant. insignia

Inaccurate, incomplete or illegible pallet labels slow output and raise production costs. So CUB needed a solution that would overcome these issues while being timesaving and robust enough to withstand a 24/7 production schedule. The solution also needed to apply labels at multiple heights while complying with the strictly regulated GS1 barcoding standards.

For more than 40 years insignia has been working with clients like CUB, tailoring solutions to support their specific labelling needs. They provide expert, end-to-end services covering not only labels but also coding equipment, systems hardware, software, and reliable and knowledgeable after-sales support. insignia’s focus is quality – quality award-winning labels, quality brands and quality people. And that’s exactly why CUB called on their expertise, to meed customers’ changing technology requirements.

Working closely with CUB personnel, insignia’s dedicated project management team developed a unique solution that no other company could offer. This solution: the Domino print and apply label applicator system.

Since 1978 Domino has been regarded as one of the world’s leading coding and printing technology suppliers, operating across a diverse industry base including food, beverage and pharmaceuticals. It was Domino’s reputation for quality and accuracy that made it the perfect fit for the CUB system upgrade.

After a 12-weel manufacturing process, the Domino technology was tested at insignia before being installed at the Yatala plant with the help of CUB engineers. J&P Richardson Industries provided PLC integration on the project, with PGC Controls installing all line control and machine interlocking wiring.

CUB’s new pallet labelling system has been running like clockwork since installation. The Domino applicator has reduced system downtime, lowered maintenance costs and increased production throughput for CUB, and met all of its customers’ changing technology requirements.
