Permanent lifting magnets have become a very popular means of safely lifting steel plate, slabs, pipe, blocks and steel coils.
These lifting magnets are normally activated and de-activated with a manually-operated lever.
However, some applications are better suited to remote actuation and this is now possible with motor-actuated MaxX series lifting magnets from Serpent and Dove.
One recent application employed four 1.5 tonne permanent lifting magnets fitted with small, in-line, high torque, DC gearmotors and appropriate controls and limit switches.
The magnets lift and place steel coils within a slitting operation.
In this case overall cost was less than that of comparable electromagnets.
