The SAFER Swimming key message, brought to you by the Australian Swim Schools Association (ASSA), insists on the adoption of the four Layers of Protection applied when in or around water, to help reduce risk and avert tragedy. These layers of protection are highlighted in this year’s edition of the National Guide to Public Pools & Aquatic Centres, released by Pro-Visual Publishing, in partnership with the Australian Swim Schools Association.
The Guide covers a range of topics and includes many additional resources pertaining to:
- Public pool safety and stats.
- SAFER swimming in different environments.
The 2016/17 edition is well equipped with vital instructions on drown prevention and provides useful tips on developing an emergency action plan for all water hazards. Sadly, it is a lack of direct adult supervision that is the main contributing factor in drowning deaths at public pools. Constant adult supervision is needed to ensure the safety of children in or around the pool.
