19/12/03:
Australia's largest independent regional airline, Regional Express, on Thursday named Geoff Breust as its new chief executive.
Rex's inaugural chief executive Michael Jones stood down from the position on June 30, with executive general manager network strategy Guy Farrow having acted in the position until a replacement was found.
Breust, who will take up his new post in early January, previously spent 12 years as general manager and chief executive of former Ansett subsidiary, Kendell Airlines.
Rex chairman Lim Kim Hai said on Thursday Breust would bring a depth of knowledge about regional air services to the airline.
"Geoff has developed a solid reputation in the industry and we are excited to welcome him to the committed team we have at Rex," Lim said.
"Few people have his specialised experience in regional aviation, and indeed his familiarity, with the communities we serve will be a distinct advantage as he takes up the reins."
Breust said he was pleased to be appointed to the position and very excited about the future of the airline.
"Rex plays a vital role in providing quality airline services to regional Australia and I look forward to leading the team of great people at Rex in fulfilling this role," Breust said.
Rex has a fleet of turboprop aircraft comprising 18 SAAB 340 34-seat aircraft and seven 19-seat Fairchild Metro 23s.
The airline employs more than 560 staff and flies 1000 flights every week to 29 metropolitan and regional centres across south eastern Australia.
