Plan to boost Aust Industry participation is good policy

04 August, 2009

The Federal Government’s “Boosting Australian Industry Participation” plan announced by Industry Minister Kim Carr is good policy that supports Australian industry to be a more active player in competing for Government tenders,” Australian Industry Group Chief Executive Heather Ridout has said.

“The plan will provide a boost to helping Australian based companies participate in the Government’s Building Australia Fund and other major infrastructure projects. The new funding will ensure that the Government’s infrastructure spending translates into orders for locally-based companies and jobs for local workers.

“Investment in this area makes good sense as Industry Capability Networks (ICN) have a lot of solid runs on the board in delivering jobs and work to Australian industry.

“It will enhance the important work of our Industry Capability Network, create industry champions and implement industry participation plans for major projects, while maintaining a competitive and open tender system.

“It will be important that the new Supplier Advocates are located directly within industry in order to maximise opportunities,” Ridout said.
