The most utilised and popular playground within the City of Port Phillip in Victoria is Plum Garland Playground located on Beaconsfield Parade.

In late 2012, a major review and consultation exercise was undertaken to identify the best way to upgrade this important recreational facility suffering from wear and tear, particularly from the coastal conditions.

In early 2013, the upgrade of Plum Garland Playground commenced. Moddex Systems and its Conectabal product range was specified at the planning stage by the architects. Underpinning this decision was Conectabal's unique commercial balustrade fittings which combine strength, durability and versatility with cost effective, modular design requiring no onsite welding.

Importantly, Moddex was specified for its full compliance with all OH&S requirements and all standards for access and mobility and ensuring safety for young children at play. Additionally, Moddex was asked to manufacture a bespoke design — wave panelling — to be in keeping with the gentle rolling waves of the seaside area in which the playground sits.

Moddex provided the required 100 metres of balustrading to encircle the playground and protect the children at play. Due to its modular construction, there is no requirement for specialist trades to install the playground area barriers as well as guaranteeing quicker and safer installation as no site welding is required.

The project's builders were able to undertake the Conectabal installation without the need of registered installers' involvement. Installation of the barrier system took just under four days — an outstanding result.
