Membrane Keypads are an economical alternative to conventional mechanical switches, and are used extensively in a wide range of electronic applications and industries. They are manufactured from polyester or incorporate a printed circuit board as the circuit layer. They are supplied with a flexible tail for connection while PCB based designs can incorporate connectors on the rear for the connection of ribbon cable or similar. Membrane keypads can be used in a variety of applications.
Keypad design can incorporate backlighting in the form of Electroluminescent (EL) or Lumitex Fibre-Optic Panels. Easy integration of these technologies into the switch structure, allows button graphics to be lit even when using metal domes for tactile feedback.
Electronic Component Integration
Membrane Keypads also offer the option to integrate devices such as led's and resistors within the assembly. Integration by such will reduce the time spent aligning led's behind a graphic panel.
As the front surface of the keypad is essentially an overlay panel, all the design options that are available for overlays apply to membrane keypads.
We can supply membrane keypads pre-assembled onto backing panels manufactured from steel, aluminium polycarbonate or PETG, which in turn can also incorporate mounting holes, standoffs and studs if required.
Graphic Overlay Panels significantly enhance the appearance and functionality of a visual user interface. They are commonly used to combine several different switch and display technologies and components as well as for product identification and information, into an integrated and user friendly interface.
Overlay Panels are used to provide the graphic layer for membrane switches and EL lamps and can also be used as a surround for touchscreens or displays.
A variety of base materials are available, though we recommend using polyester for any application where the panel will be flexed. If the panel is simply for badging or identification purposes polycarbonate is suitable. Both polyester and polycarbonate offer a variety of surface finishes from matt to high gloss and even hard coated gloss.
Unlimited graphic design options are a key feature of graphic overlay panels. Embossing, raised printing, die or laser cutting and the inclusion of clear or tinted windows for LCD and LED displays are just some of the effects which Reid Industrial Graphic Products can incorporate into an overlay panel to enhance its appearance and ease of use.
