Reliable Fiber Optic Data Communication from Westermo

Supplier: Paqworks by Madison Technologies
20 August, 2007

Paqworks release the Westermo range of modular fibre optics modems ensuring cost effective, point to point, multi-drop or redundancy ring fibre optics links, with RS-232, RS-422/485 or PROFIBUS devices.

With fibre distances up to 80 km, and harsh environment compliance, they are largely dedicated to applications for wide area industrial networks, and road or railway signalling.

With its new ODW-600 range, Westermo covers most of industrial needs for fibre optic modems (PROFIBUS, RS-232, RS-422/485 devices) with only 6 different products using off-the-shelf components. A significant innovation is the new and unique concept of changeable transceivers. Before delivery, each product (be it for RS 232, RS 422/485 or PROFIBUS modems) is customised with one of the four kinds of compliant transceivers (multimode 5 km, singlemode 15 km, singlemode 40 km, singlemode 80 km), according to the application.

These optical components are mounted on a frame, which allows them to be configured easily according to the evolution of the customers’ applications. The ODW´s can be equipped with a big variety of fibre transceivers depending on distances. The fibre transceivers can also be mixed, e.g. one line for multimode and the other line for singlemode.
