The current self rescuer generation is intended to suit applications where filter self rescuers are unable to be used due to the working environment such as an oxygen deficient area or because the pollutant concentration is too high. The Dräger SCSR range works in such a way that the user is not dependant on the ambient atmosphere around the user and affords adequate protection against toxic pollutants and a lack of oxygen.
When developing past generations of oxygen self rescuers no expense was spared making sure the considerations of the world and particularly the mining industry were taking into consideration with respect to lightweight design, ergonomically being able to be carried and handled, ease of donning the apparatus, robustness, reliability, inhalation temperature, low breathing resistance and length of time for which protection is afforded.
The SCSR family essentially consists of a mouthpiece-type face piece with nose clip, a breathing bag with relief valve, potassium peroxide (KO2) cartridge - which liberates oxygen during the respiratory process -, a starter cartridge for the donning process - which supplies oxygen independently of the user's breathing -, a heat exchanger, an air accumulator and an adjustable head harness.
This type of equipment has been specially developed for emergency situations. The apparatus can be constantly carried on the user's belt without noticeably impeding normal activities thanks to the ergonomic design of the carrying case. The fact that the apparatus is worn at the head means that users can move freely even when narrow and low openings make an upright stance impossible. Wearing the apparatus at the head also means that it is possible to change to a long-term breathing unit in a few seconds virtually without interruption of the respiratory protection.
The Next Generation Oxygen Self Rescuer
Dräger's Oxy 6000 Self Rescuer
The latest addition to the SCSR family is the robust Dräger Oxy 6000 self-rescuer bringing a new level of safety with it. As a self-contained device, it features an innovative "Safety Eye" which ensures maximum reliability and efficiency in an emergency. It is the ideal companion for underground, utilities, shipping applications and environments that don't allow filter self rescuers to provide adequate protection due to possible ambient atmosphere conditions.
Keeping an eye on your safety
The innovative Safety Eye is designed to let you keep an eye on safety. Providing immediate confirmation of operational readiness, this clear status window allows wearers to check for the presence of moisture and yellow KO2 fragments within the device on a daily basis.
Intuitive in operation and flexible in use, the Dräger Oxy 6000 supplies independent air for up to 60 minutes. It is an ideal emergency system for escape from hazardous areas containing smoke, toxic gases or oxygen deficiency.
Long term reliability
Tested in the harshest mining applications and offering a 10-year lifetime without maintenance, the robust housing features a double-cased design to protect the KO2 cartridge complete with integral shock absorption and crush zone protection. It also features replaceable abrasion/wear protection for maximum strength and durability.
Comfortable and easy to use
Ergonomically designed and small in size for optimum manoeuvrability, the Dräger Oxy 6000 is comfortable to wear and will minimize restriction of movement and interference with work. Fitted with a stainless steel clip that is easy to open with either hand, it is simple and quick to don. The functional device is removed from the protective outer casing by pulling on the yellow neck strap. The breathing hose can then be placed in the mouth and the nose clip positioned. The starter is automatically activated, providing an immediate air supply. As a result, you gain time to escape from the hazardous area.
Flexible wearer concept
Depending on the application, the Dräger Oxy 6000 can be carried with a shoulder strap or worn with a belt. The face piece comprises a mouthpiece, nose clip and protective goggles. A wide range of accessories is also available.
Training to ensure ongoing safety
To be prepared for an emergency situation, regular training on the use of the oxygen self-rescuer is essential. The Dräger Oxy 6000 can be supplied in a training version.
An optional mouthpiece combination is available which, in addition to breathing resistance, simulates realistic operational temperatures. Backed by Dräger's extensive range of safety and service products, it can also be returned to Dräger for safe disposal.
