MEN VMEbus 3U and 6U VME
In addition to state of the art PC functionality, all CPU boards feature industrial functions such as real-time clock, or watchdogs for temperature and voltage control. Memory and mass storage configuration possiblities include standard DRAM system memory plus non-volatile SRAM or FRAM, CompactFlash NAND Flash and on-board hard disks for program storage. Many cards also include mezzanine slots for flexible and individual extension by further I/O functions.
MEN VMEbus solutiosn are completed by a huge number of industrial I/O boards based on the M-Module PMC, XMC, and PC-MIP ANSI/IEC mezzanine standards. Available functions extend from analog and binary I/Os to instrument devices up to fieldbus, network and graphics.
A growing number of boards are equipped with FPGAs for implementation of further application-specific functions. Complete VMEbus systems are delivered individually configured, wired and tested on the basis of Schroff mechanics and backplanes. Some boards are even prepared for busless operations.
Software support comprises BSPs and driver packages for Linux, Windows and several popular real-time operating systems. MEN VME Boards have been developed to work also in rugged enviroments - qualified or screened regards shock, vibration, drop, resonance, humidity, chemicals, and up to -40 to +85°C operation temperature. MEN boards have a long-term availablity of 5 up to 10 years ( and longer according to individual agreements) depending on the components used.
The rugged VMEbus products from MEN are often used in industrial automation, but also in railway applications eg. MVB based vehicle networking, or in medical engineering.
The A602 is a 6U 64-bit VMEbus SBC with advanced safety features that realise the functionality of three redundant systems on a single board. Its complex FPGA-based design helps dramatically lower software development costs as it automatically manages the system's triple-redundant processors and memory. The result: The system's redundant architecture is fully taken advantage of by software designed for a standard single-CPU board.
The A602 is designed for deterministic operation and offers extensive BITE features (e.g., ECC error counters for all types of memory, monitoring of all internal voltages), internal buses with error correction and fault-tolerant (fail-operational) implementation.
Its three processors run in lockstep mode with 2-out-of-3 voting implemented in FPGA and software-assisted resynchronisation, while its triple redundant dynamic memory automatically corrects upsets caused by cosmic radiation (SEU) and hardware faults. The system is powered by redundant local power supplies with separate power supplies for the three CPUs and the three main memory banks.
All I/O is realised in FPGAs (SEU-resistant, developed according to DO-254) and available on the system's rear connectors. Additionally, the A602 offers an RS232 interface at the front panel and two PMC slots: One universal PMC slot with front and rear I/O and a customised slot for an AFDX® PMC with rear I/O only. A second A602 can be connected to build a high reliability cluster. The two A602s exchange data via a sextuple UART connection and a BMCX link.
