Air release valves are used to prevent pipeline bursts or collapse and prevent pump cavitation due to:
- Air intake/discharge failure in the start-up and shut-off of the system
- Pressurised air pockets that are formed during the operation
- As a result of water hammer that can form during the start-up/shut down of the system
- During the operation by column separation
The Ezi-Vac2 non-slam valve consists of two floats. The upper float on exhaust has a controlled rate of air release. This feature allows air to stay inside the system for a longer period of time to act as a cushion and this is exhausted through the top float with a lower velocity. On final closure, the upper float returns to the normal position with the main float closed.
In the case of a column separation where large volumes of air should be introduced to the system for the prevention of water hammer, the main float opens quickly to intake large amounts of air to the pipeline in a short amount of time. All Ezi-Vac Valves are constructed as full bore with high discharge/intake capacities
