An Australian construction company used Flexshield Sonic Curtain Panels to clad a temporary acoustic enclosure built to contain noise and dust during the demolition of the terrazzo floor coverings at the Canberra Centre Ainslie Mall.
All works were carried out at night meaning stringent noise restrictions were in effect.
The construction noise control enclosure completely enclosed the demolition machinery and was built from light weight scaffold and internally clad with 12mm ply. The exterior of the enclosure was then covered with sonic curtains to contain the demolition noise.
Prior to the use of the mobile noise enclosure ambient noise was measured at 55 to 60dB at the entry to the adjacent blocks of flats. During test demolition noise levels of up to 85 dB were recorded. While using the enclosure the maximum recorded level was 66dB!
The Project Manager commented on the necessity of Flexshields participation for the project's success.
"There is no doubt that without the FLEXSHIELD sonic curtain panels we would have been unable to complete the works without constructing a fully engineered acoustic hording at many times the expense and with considerable delay to our program."
