Haden & Custance also provides to NDC the expertise to seamlessly integrate the vehicles into the production floor environment.
NDC supply a range of Laser Guided Vehicles, used for the automated transport of materials ranging from pallet handling to washing machine parts. With capacities up to 4000kg, these driverless vehicles are programmed to transport materials through designated pick up and delivery stations.
Laser guidance is the current preferred method of navigation. Reflectors are mounted around the working area of the vehicle. The rotating laser mounted on top of the AGV detects the reflectors and calculates its position based on the angles between the reflectors 20 times per second. This system is used world wide in approximately 1800 vehicles.
Sick PLS safety sensors are used to make the AGVs safe. When the AGV detects an unexpected obstacle it will slow and sound a siren. If the obstacle is still present when the obstacle enters the stop zone of the safety sensor, the AGV will stop and not move until the obstacle is removed. For this reason, operators in the factories where H&C has installed NDC AGVs report they feel much safer now that forklifts have been eliminated.
BENEFITS of Automated Guided Vehicles:
- Increased safety
- Increased throughput – prioritises urgent pickups
- Integrated into production floor
- Reliable laser guidance
