Beating corrosion in industrial water systems
Maintenance must be more than an afterthought, particularly when it comes to your industrial water system.
Although it can be easy to forget the maintenance of products once they are installed, doing so can result in massive problems down the track.
"Pumps, boilers and cooling systems, to name a few, all become degraded due to calcium and limescale deposits caused by hard water," according to Terry Ross from Merus Australia.
"Hospitals experience more breakdowns – all due to limescale and calcium build up.
"Energy consumption increases when scale builds up in systems so carbon footprints increases, as do power bills. Chemicals used to descale are not friendly to (the) environment."
One way to overcome steel corrosion problems is what Merus Australia calls continuous corrosion control (CCC) – the ongoing protection of timber, metal, stone, rubber, fibreglass and many other substrates.
Merus Australia’s products are non-curing, which means once the product is coated, it remains active and mobile within the substrate.
For example, once applied, Metaltreat will form an impermeable breathable barrier on the surface and will soak deeply into the substrate. This compares to other types of systems which just sit on the top of the surface.
Metaltreat also adapts as temperatures change. In hotter weather, it becomes active and penetrates deeper into the surface. In colder weather, it stops being mobile while still retaining its waterproofing properties.
Its waterproofing qualities also mean it can be used in marine projects and has been specified by SKM (Sinclair Knight Merz) to protect underwater scientific equipment off Barrow Island Chevron.
It can also be used in workshops for lubrication and anti-seize, a release agent for moulds, anti-spatter agent for welding and to reduce friction on mechanical parts.
The product is environmentally friendly and does not contain volatile organic compounds or carcinogenic toxins.
