Most hunters can tell heroic stories of how they suffered getting a wild boar or other big game out of the bush.
For sure, these are good stories to tell, but isn't hunting supposed to be fun, not a crazy workout?
Specialised Force Pty Ltd has now introduced the new lightweight model PCW3000 petrol-powered Portable Capstan Winch — designed to take the misery out of the process.
At only 9.5 kg, stored in a custom high-strength case that attaches to a lightweight backpack frame, the PCW3000 can be easily carried wherever a person can walk.
Pulling capacity is 700 kg; power comes from a 35 cc Honda four stroke engine which can operate in any position.
The idea is simple: optimise the capstan principle (no limit to the length of rope) to build a portable winch that can be carried anywhere.
It's used with a rope instead of a steel cable, which makes the whole system even lighter. In this case 50 m of rope is stored in the vinyl rope bag that can also be attached to the backpack carrier.
The hunting kit also includes a pulley to double the capacity to 1400 kg, a polyester sling to anchor the winch to a tree and 2 carabiners.
In addition to doubling the pull, the pulley also makes hoisting big game easy when you need to hang it. It can also be used for redirecting the rope to avoid obstacles.
The winch is very easy to use. Simply attach the winch to a tree, a stump or anything that is heavier than the load. Then, wrap the 3/8'' (10 mm) rope on the capstan drum, start the engine and pull on the exiting rope. The pressure of the rope on the drum is enough to pull any big game.
The crazy hours trying to retrieve your game are over. No more wondering if you should shoot it or not. No matter the terrain, where there's a portable winch, there's a way.
