Case studies - New Zealand Post
A lost key would present many issues the most prominent being mail theft. In addition the boxes are cleared by contractors and an electronic key system with an audit trail would allow verification that the box had been opened to be cleared.
The EKA System was chosen to be installed. In the early stages there were a number of issues mostly caused by the harsh New Zealand environment and locks being located at the roadside. The issues were overcome when the EKA cylinders were upgraded to a special stainless steel that was resistant to the harsh environment.
The system now comprises of approximately 4850 locks and 750 users and is installed throughout New Zealand. The entire system is managed by the Cyber Audit Web software that is centrally located in Wellington.
Keys are updated at over 50 authorisation points located at the various postal hubs throughout the country. The business is looking at ways of integrating the information collected through the key audit trails into everyday business planning.
